Interested in becoming a Freemason?

The process for joining Masonry is fairly standard anywhere in Texas.

Here are the first steps you should take:

Ask for Information

If you know a Mason, ask him about the fraternity. Don’t be shy, we love talking to those interested in Masonry. If you don’t know a Mason, we encourage you to contact us with any questions you might have. We welcome the opportunity to explain why we are a part of this fraternity, address any concerns or misconceptions you might have, and just get to know you.

Our monthly meetings are for Masons only, but we always spend an hour beforehand dining and fellowshipping, and you are encouraged to come by and meet us. Additionally, a small group of us meets nearly every Wednesday evening, and this would be a perfect time to drink a cup of coffee with us and find out what we are about. At the bottom of this website and on our calendar page we have posted our meeting times.

Petition a Lodge

We are one of three Masonic lodges in Abilene, and there are several more in the surrounding area. This lodge locator is a great help (hint: we are in District 75). Once you find your fit, ask that lodge for a petition. They will clarify any questions you have. They will also help you get all the signatures you need, as anyone interested in joining must be vouched for by several members of that lodge.

After Submitting Your Petition

After you turn in your petition, our lodge goes to work. Your petition will be presented to the lodge, and three “investigators” will be chosen to meet with you. They will ask you certain standard questions, but will also just want to get to know you, if they have not yet had the opportunity. Do not be surprised if one or more of them wants to meet you at your home with your family. Because Masonry represents an investment of your time, money, and energy it is important that you have their support.

These men will give their recommendation to the lodge (usually at the next stated meeting), at which time a ballot will be taken on your petition. Soon afterwards, a member of the lodge will contact you with the results, and any additional instructions.

And then your journey begins!
